University of Liverpool-Impact Research Centre

The Impact Research Centre at The University of Liverpool combines the research interests of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering. It has acquired a high standard of expertise in the field of structrural impact over the last decade. Examples of work currently underway and completed at the Centre include the structural crashworthiness of land, marine and aerospace vehicles, the dynamic response of energy absorbing systems, the blast loading of industrial and offshore plant, the impact damage tolerance of lightweight offshore structures and the safety assessment of crash barrier performance for road bridges, as well as the supporting dynamic property tests on a wide range of materials.

The Main Laboratories of the Centre are situated in the Department of Mechnaical Engineering and includes amongst its special equipment three drop hammer rigs, two catapult rigs, gas gun apparatus, two high rate servo hydraulic machines, two blast testing rigs and Hopkins bars.
